Gangtok, April 17 (NationPress) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang praised the significant rally held by women throughout Sikkim on Friday, advocating for the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill), describing it as a profound demonstration of unity, awareness, and shared determination.

In a post on social media, the Chief Minister expressed that it was a moment of “great pride, unity, and inspiration” to see women from various backgrounds—mothers, sisters, and daughters—unite in support of women’s empowerment across every constituency.

He remarked that the rally represented the strength and resolve of women in the state, emphasizing their increasing involvement in shaping public conversations.

“This collective show of support highlights the strength, awareness, and resolve of the women in our state,” Tamang stated.

He extended his best wishes on behalf of the state government and its citizens, commending the participants for their active engagement and dedication.

The Chief Minister noted that such movements are vital for fostering a more inclusive and empowered society. “The active engagement of women in these endeavors is genuinely inspiring and will undoubtedly pave the way for a stronger and more equitable future,” he added.

Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam as a groundbreaking reform, Tamang indicated that its passage signifies a historic advancement in promoting women’s empowerment in India.

He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this initiative, labeling it as one of the most significant milestones of the 21st century in enhancing gender equality.

The Chief Minister expressed optimism that the enthusiasm generated by such public engagement would continue to inspire progress and unity in the future.

He stressed that ongoing efforts and collective determination are crucial for ensuring meaningful representation and opportunities for women across various sectors.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, formally referred to as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, was introduced by the Central government under the leadership of PM Modi, and aims to allocate 33 percent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

This legislation is viewed as a pivotal reform addressing the historical underrepresentation of women in the political arena of India.

By ensuring enhanced participation of women in law-making, the Bill aims to create a governance structure that is more inclusive and representative. Its execution is tied to the delimitation process, which will adjust constituency boundaries based on population changes, after which the reservation will take effect. Advocates argue that this action will politically empower women and reinforce democratic institutions while encouraging more women to assume leadership positions across various sectors.
