Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (NationPress) The President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, landed at Bhubaneswar Airport on Friday for a two-day visit to Odisha. He was greeted by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan upon arrival.
Following his arrival, Shanmugaratnam proceeded in a carcade to a hotel, where he is scheduled to meet with CM Majhi and other officials later in the day.
Accompanying the President is a prominent delegation consisting of Ministers, business leaders, government officials from Singapore, and representatives from leading academic institutions.
During this visit, approximately eight Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) are set to be signed between various agencies from Singapore and Odisha.
The Singaporean President will engage in discussions with CM Majhi regarding various matters aimed at enhancing economic relations and discovering mutual opportunities for both Singapore and Odisha.
Reports indicate that two MoUs will be established between ITE Education Services (ITEES) of Singapore and the Odisha Skill Development and Technical Education department, focusing on collaboration in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
This agreement will support improvements in the skill development ecosystem, including training related to semiconductors in Odisha.
Later in the day, Shanmugaratnam is expected to visit the World Skill Centre located at Mancheswar, which was established with assistance from ITEES and funding from the Asian Development Bank.
Additionally, MoUs will also cover topics such as green hydrogen, collaboration on research and development in sustainable energy technologies, and the development of Industrial Parks and Petrochemical and Petroleum Investment Regions.
On January 18, the President plans to visit the renowned Sun Temple at Konark and the Bharat Biotech vaccine manufacturing facility located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
President Shanmugaratnam is in India from January 14 to 18, 2025, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Island nation and India.
Notably, Singapore will serve as the inaugural country partner for 'Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025', scheduled for January 28 and 29.
