Of those detained, four are from Gujarat, charged with theft.

The police reported that these four suspects were captured in the Hastings area by the 'Watch' branch of the Intelligence Department headquartered at Lalbazar (Kolkata Police headquarters). The individuals have been identified as Anil Ramju Salat, Dhiru Kalobhai Salat, Sameerbhai Salat, and Raju Kumar, all residents of Anand in Gujarat.

According to police reports, a theft complaint was lodged at Jorasanko police station on January 14, naming the four as suspects. Investigators had been on the lookout for them for the past month before their eventual capture in Hastings on Saturday.

In another incident, two suspects related to a theft report made at Girish Park police station on January 20 were also arrested in the Park Circus area on Saturday.

The detained individuals have been named as Mohammad Shahnawaz, also known as Sunny, and Mohammad Sameer. Both reside in the Entally area of central Kolkata. Reports indicate they are responsible for stealing various items, including mobile phones and cash from a cab driver's car while he was asleep.

According to police sources, all six suspects from the two cases were scheduled to be presented in court on Sunday.

Recently, during a monthly crime prevention meeting, Commissioner Supratim Sarkar directed that police presence should be heightened throughout the city during peak hours. The Commissioner himself took to the streets on Saturday to evaluate the effectiveness of this directive, which coincided with the arrest of these six individuals linked to thefts committed approximately a month prior.
