Jammu, Feb 11 (NationPress) On Tuesday, two soldiers, including a captain, tragically lost their lives due to an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion while on patrol near the Line of Control (LoC) fence in the Akhnoor sector of J&K.

A spokesperson from the Defence Ministry confirmed that the suspected IED explosion occurred in Lalaeli during a routine fence patrol, leading to the deaths of the two soldiers.

“Our troops are currently securing the area, and search operations are in progress. The White Knight Corps honors the ultimate sacrifice made by these two brave soldiers,” the spokesperson stated.

It was clarified that one of the fallen soldiers held the rank of captain.

“At this time, it remains unclear whether the IED was planted by insurgents or if it was an accidental detonation of an anti-infiltration landmine laid by the military near the LoC,” he added.

Additionally, the spokesperson mentioned that just the previous week, five terrorists were eliminated in a landmine explosion while attempting to cross into Indian territory in the Rajouri district.

“One of the infiltrating terrorists triggered an anti-infiltration landmine near the LoC fence, resulting in the deaths of all five Pakistani terrorists,” he reported.

In another incident last week in the Poonch district, terrorists fired upon patrolling soldiers from across the LoC, prompting the alert troops to return fire, successfully preventing another infiltration.

The spokesperson noted that following a high-level security review meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah last week, patrols by the army along the LoC and by security forces in the hinterland have been significantly intensified.

The Union Home Minister instructed that security forces must maintain zero infiltration and adopt a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism in J&K.

According to reports, due to the lower than average snowfall this winter, all infiltration routes for terrorists remain accessible, necessitating increased vigilance from army personnel stationed along the LoC.
