Kolkata, Aug 12 (NationPress) - The Meteorological Department announced on Tuesday that various districts in South Bengal are anticipated to experience increased rainfall starting Thursday, as a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the northern region of the Bay of Bengal in the forthcoming days.
Recently, some districts in South Bengal have been undergoing light to moderate rainfall, with daily maximum temperatures surpassing normal levels in numerous locations.
The rise in temperatures combined with humidity has led to uncomfortable conditions; however, relief is on the horizon.
"The monsoon axis is extending over north Bengal. A caution for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for districts in the north. In contrast, districts in south Bengal are facing high humidity levels due to sporadic rainfall. Another low-pressure system is expected to form later this week, bringing moisture from the Bay of Bengal. This will result in heavy rainfall in south Bengal," stated a representative from the Met department.
As per the official, light to moderate showers are predicted for the districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, and East Midnapore on Tuesday. Humidity-driven discomfort is likely to escalate over the next couple of days. Additionally, gusty winds at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are expected in certain districts.
Meanwhile, persistent rainfall continues across most of North Bengal. A heavy to very heavy rain alert has been issued for the hilly districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, along with Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur, while moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasted for all northern districts through the weekend.
In the meantime, sporadic light to moderate rain may affect Kolkata and surrounding areas. The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Tuesday registered at 28.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees above normal. The city's maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 34.7 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees higher than normal.
