Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 15 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed the timeline for the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Sunday, emphasizing the inclusion of 7,617 registered voters from the third-gender community among the total of 5.67 crore voters in the state.
Voting across all 234 Assembly constituencies is set for April 23, with vote counting planned for May 4.
The electoral procedure is expected to conclude by May 6, paving the way for a significant political showdown in one of India’s most politically active states.
As per the latest electoral rolls from the Election Commission, Tamil Nadu's voter base includes around 4.63 lakh persons with disabilities and nearly 3.99 lakh senior citizens aged over 85 years, all gearing up to participate in this democratic event.
A remarkable aspect of the electoral statistics is the significant number of young voters.
The Commission noted that approximately 12.51 lakh first-time voters aged between 18 and 19 years are anticipated to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections, marking the highest figure among the four states holding elections this year. This trend highlights the increasing impact of young voters on Tamil Nadu's political dynamics.
The Election Commission reiterated that out of the 234 Assembly constituencies, 44 seats are allocated for Scheduled Castes and two seats for Scheduled Tribes, as mandated by the Constitution.
To ensure a seamless and accessible voting experience, the Commission has set up 75,032 polling stations throughout Tamil Nadu.
A cap of 1,200 voters per polling station has been established to enhance crowd management and voter convenience.
Officials indicated that a comprehensive rationalization effort was conducted to determine polling locations. Additional polling stations have been established in high-rise apartments, group housing societies, Resident Welfare Association (RWA) areas with community halls, and densely populated urban slum regions to ensure that voters can easily access polling booths.
With the election timeline now disclosed, political entities are expected to intensify their campaign efforts and finalize their candidates for what is anticipated to be a closely monitored Assembly election in Tamil Nadu.
