Telangana High Court Rejects Mohan Babu's Anticipatory Bail Application

Hyderabad, Dec 23 (NationPress) In a blow to veteran actor Manchu Mohan Babu in connection with a case involving an assault on a journalist, the Telangana High Court on Monday rejected his anticipatory bail petition.
Mohan Babu had requested anticipatory bail citing health concerns. His lawyer informed the court that he was experiencing health issues related to his heart and nervous system.
The court noted that Mohan Babu is presently in Tirupati.
After a recent trip to Dubai to visit his grandson, Mohan Babu traveled to Tirupati to manage the operations of his educational institutions.
However, the public prosecutor contested the request for anticipatory bail.
Upon reviewing the arguments, the court decided to dismiss the anticipatory bail plea.
The veteran actor, who also served as a former Member of Parliament, has been charged with attempted murder following an incident where he attacked a reporter from a television channel after seizing the microphone. The reporter sustained injuries and required hospitalization.
This incident took place on the night of December 10 during a chaotic situation at Mohan Babu's residence in Jalpally, which was triggered by a conflict with his actor son, Manchu Manoj.
The Rachakonda Police initially filed a case under Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 118 (1) for causing harm with dangerous weapons or substances against Mohan Babu, and later included Section 109 (attempt to murder).
An FIR was lodged based on a complaint by M. Satyanarayana, a reporter from TV9, a Telangana news channel.
Mohan Babu attacked the TV reporter while the latter was at his home in Jalpally to report on the ongoing dispute between the veteran actor and his son, Manchu Manoj.
In response, journalists organized protests demanding that the police file an attempted murder charge.
Mohan Babu was admitted to the hospital the same night due to high blood pressure and anxiety, and he was discharged two days later. He subsequently apologized to the journalist and TV9.
On December 15, he, along with his elder son and actor Manchu Vishnu, visited the hospital to meet the journalist. He reiterated his apologies to the reporter and his family.
Previously, Mohan Babu and his sons faced charges under BNS Sections 329 (4) (criminal trespass and house trespass) and 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt) in relation to the incidents at their residence.
On December 11, Mohan Babu and his sons were summoned by Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu.
The veteran actor sought an exemption from the High Court.
His two sons appeared separately before the Commissioner, who took their undertaking that they would not engage in any actions that could escalate the situation.
The Police Commissioner stated on December 16 that there was no delay in the actions against Mohan Babu regarding the cases filed against him.
The Commissioner affirmed that the police would comply with the orders of the High Court, which has given Mohan Babu until December 24 to report to the police.
Commissioner Sudheer Babu indicated that if Mohan Babu failed to respond by December 24, a new notice would be issued.
