Mohan Babu Seeks Anticipatory Bail from Telangana High Court in Journalist Assault Case

Hyderabad, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Telangana High Court has postponed the hearing to December 19 concerning the anticipatory bail request of veteran Tollywood actor Mohan Babu, who is implicated in an attempt to murder case related to his assault on a television journalist.

Mohan Babu requested temporary orders to prevent police from arresting him until the next court session. However, the court did not grant any orders to obstruct the police from taking action.

The court instructed the police to submit a counter affidavit in response to Mohan Babu’s petition.

The seasoned actor, who is also a former Member of Parliament, faces charges of attempting to murder after he assaulted a TV channel reporter by seizing the microphone. The reporter sustained injuries and required hospitalization.

This incident transpired on Tuesday evening amid turmoil at Mohan Babu’s residence in Jalpally, during a dispute involving his actor son, Manchu Manoj.

The Rachakonda Police initially filed a case under section 118 (1) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing harm with dangerous weapons, later adding section 109 for attempted murder.

The FIR was lodged following a complaint by M. Satyanarayana, a reporter from the Telangana news channel TV9.

Mohan Babu attacked the TV reporter while he was at the actor’s home in Jalpally to report on the ongoing conflict between the veteran actor and his son, Manchu Manoj.

On Wednesday, journalists protested, demanding that the police file an attempt to murder charge and an apology from Mohan Babu, who is also a former Member of Parliament.

Mohan Babu, who was also taken to the hospital on Tuesday night and released on Thursday, expressed his regret to the journalist and TV9.

The senior actor shared a letter on X to convey his sorrow over the unfortunate event.

“It deeply saddens me that what began as a private family matter escalated into a broader incident, causing distress not only to the respected TV9 family but also to the wider journalism community,” he stated.

The senior actor also provided his account of the events that occurred at his residence in Jalpally on the night of December 10.

“In the heat of the moment, as my gate was broken and 30-50 individuals, including anti-social elements, forcefully entered my home with the intent to harm those inside, I lost my temper. Amid this turmoil, the media inadvertently became involved. As I attempted to control the situation, Mr. Ranjith, one of your journalists, unfortunately got injured. This was a regrettable outcome, and I sincerely apologize for the pain and trouble caused to him, his family, and the TV9 community,” he posted.
