Nanded, Feb 10 (NationPress) One individual was fatally shot and another sustained injuries when two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at them outside a Gurudwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded city on Monday morning. This attack is believed to be connected to the fugitive terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Rinda, who has a bounty of Rs 10 lakh placed on him by the NIA.
The deceased, Ravinder Singh Rathore, was killed, while Sevadar Gurmeet Singh suffered injuries during the close-range gunfire that occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the Shahidpura area near Gate No. 6 of the Gurudwara, according to a senior police official from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.
The police have indicated that Gurmeet Singh was likely the primary target of the attackers, as he was allegedly implicated in the death of Rinda’s brother, Surinder Singh, back in 2016.
Gurmeet had only recently been released on parole on January 22, as confirmed by the police.
“It appears that Gurmeet was the main target, and Ravinder was accidentally shot. A bullet aimed at Gurmeet struck Ravinder fatally in the abdomen,” stated a police officer.
This incident is reportedly orchestrated by Rinda, who claims to be the head of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in India, seeking revenge for his brother’s death.
Previous investigations conducted by the NIA have confirmed Rinda and his affiliates' involvement in a plot to inflict terror across Punjab and other regions of the country.
Before engaging with terrorist groups, Rinda was active in student politics. Originally from Tarn Taran district, Punjab, he relocated to Nanded with his family at the age of 11.
Police records indicate that Rinda committed murder at 18 over a family dispute, leading to two FIRs against him for murder, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act. Subsequently, two more cases emerged in 2016, resulting in Rinda being labeled a fugitive.
Rinda’s brother, Surinder Singh, was allegedly killed by Gurmeet Singh in 2016 at the behest of another individual, Roshan Singh Mali, with whom Rinda had longstanding grievances, the police reported.
Following this, Rinda and his gang retaliated by killing Mali’s brother and several others believed to be linked to the murder.
According to security agencies, Rinda is thought to be currently residing in Lahore, Pakistan, under the protection of various cross-border groups. From there, he has been coordinating cross-border terrorist activities and extortion.
Additionally, the police have alleged that Rinda has established a local gang focused on extortion.
In recent years, he allegedly orchestrated the murder of a well-known builder from Nanded, Sanjay Biyani, for extortion purposes, as reported by the police.
