Thick Fog Covers Parts of Rajasthan; Rain, Hail, and Cold Wave Predicted Soon

Jaipur, Dec 26 (NationPress) As thick fog enveloped various regions of Rajasthan on Thursday, the meteorological department has issued warnings regarding the possibility of rain, hailstorms, and an approaching cold wave in the coming days.

Visibility in Jaipur dropped to around 200 metres at 7 a.m. due to the dense fog. Even by 11 a.m., the sun struggled to shine through the thick cover. In several areas of the city, fog lingered until 10 a.m.

Fatehpur Shekhawati and Sikar experienced similar conditions, with visibility falling below 40 metres. The dense fog compelled vehicles to drive at lower speeds with their headlights activated. The lowest temperature recorded in Fatehpur Shekhawati was a brisk 3.5°C.

Additionally, the meteorological department has forecasted a period of rain over the next three days, continuing until December 28. Hailstorms and cold wave conditions are anticipated.

Rain is expected to affect 18 districts, including Jaipur, starting from Thursday. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for seven districts on December 27 and a yellow alert for rain and hailstorms in 22 districts. On December 28, rain is predicted in 23 districts, including the capital, Jaipur.

Throughout the cold wave, daytime temperatures are expected to remain below 20°C. Fog will persist across the state from December 28, driven by northern winds, which will further exacerbate the cold wave in the following days.

On Thursday morning, dense fog was reported in Jaipur, Sikar, Sawai Madhopur, and Kota, with visibility ranging from 30 to 50 metres.

Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center in Jaipur, indicated that an induced cyclonic wind system has activated over southeastern Rajasthan. This system will lead to widespread rainfall starting Thursday, with the most significant impact expected on December 27.

In Sawai Madhopur, visibility dropped to 50 metres. The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 23°C, while the minimum was 13°C. The region remained overcast, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert for rain on Thursday in Sawai Madhopur.

On Friday, December 27, as many as 29 districts may experience cloudy weather and light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Hailstorms might also occur in certain areas, particularly within the Jaipur and Ajmer divisions.

The Director further noted that once the cyclonic system dissipates on December 28, a cold wave from northern India will sweep across the state. This will result in a substantial drop in nighttime temperatures, with many cities likely to record minimum temperatures of 5°C or even lower.
