Chennai, March 31 (NationPress) President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), K. Selvaperunthagai, has declared that Congress activists statewide will conduct black flag protests coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu on April 6.

In a statement released on Monday, Selvaperunthagai indicated that protests will occur at all district headquarters, focusing on various issues, such as the alleged enforcement of Hindi, the Centre’s three-language policy, inadequate disaster relief funds, and insufficient backing for school education.

The TNCC leader accused the BJP-led administration under Prime Minister Modi of persistently misleading the citizens of Tamil Nadu through what he termed as “anti-democratic policies”. He also condemned the delay in fund disbursement for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and the Chennai Metro Rail project.

Prime Minister Modi is set to arrive in Tamil Nadu on April 6, which coincides with Ram Navami. He is anticipated to pray at the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram and inaugurate the newly built Pamban Bridge.

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister will travel to Rameswaram from Sri Lanka after wrapping up a bilateral visit. He will initially attend the BIMSTEC sub-regional summit in Thailand on April 3 and 4, followed by visits to Colombo and Anuradhapura before arriving in Tamil Nadu.

The new vertical lift railway sea bridge, constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) at a cost of Rs 535 crore, spans over 2.5 kilometres. It replaces the old bridge, which was closed in 2022 due to corrosion.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw previously described this structure as “India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge” and a representation of modern engineering and improved connectivity. This prominent visit comes amid indications of a renewed political partnership between the BJP and the AIADMK.

Recently, AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, suggesting a potential revival of the BJP-AIADMK alliance ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Political analysts believe such a realignment could have notable impacts on the electoral landscape of the state.
