Mandya, May 26 (NationPress) A tragic event unfolded in Mandya city, Karnataka, where a toddler lost her life after falling from a motorcycle during a traffic police inspection on Monday.
This incident has ignited public anger, as many are holding the traffic police accountable for this heartbreaking situation.
The accident transpired on Monday morning at Nanda Circle in Mandya. The three-and-a-half-year-old girl, identified as Hruthiksha, tragically died in her mother’s arms after struggling for a short while. A significant crowd gathered at the scene, leading to a tense atmosphere.
Hruthiksha was the daughter of Ashok and Vani, a couple from Goravanahalli in Mandya taluk, who were en route to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Hospital due to a stray dog bite.
Ashok, along with his wife Vani, was transporting their child on the bike when the traffic police at Nanda Circle, who were stopping riders for helmet and other violations, allegedly made an abrupt attempt to halt their vehicle.
Startled, Ashok tried to maneuver quickly but lost control upon noticing the traffic police. The bike toppled over, resulting in Ashok, Vani, and their child crashing to the ground. The child sustained a severe head injury from the fall and tragically passed away in her mother’s lap at the scene.
Local residents voiced their outrage at the police for attempting to stop a couple hurrying their child to the hospital, blaming the traffic police for the tragic outcome due to reckless enforcement.
Mandya MLA and Congress leader Ravi Ganiga criticized the incident, labeling the police's conduct as inhumane. He stated that he has communicated with the Superintendent of Police (SP) and demanded the immediate suspension of the traffic officers involved.
“The police acted inappropriately by obstructing the vehicle in such a manner. There needs to be a transformation in police behavior. I extend my apologies to the family for their loss. I will ensure government compensation and contribute personally as well,” he added.
Further information regarding the incident is awaited.
