Kolkata, April 8 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress MP and ex-cricketer Yusuf Pathan expressed his strong belief that his party will regain power in West Bengal during the forthcoming two-phase Assembly elections, confidently stating it is "not going anywhere for the next 40-50 years".
Pathan was actively campaigning for party candidate Abdul Khaleque Molla, who is vying for the Metiabruz Assembly seat in the South 24 Parganas district. The elections are set to take place on April 23 and 29.
In an interview with IANS, Pathan remarked, "This support from the populace is for him (Molla). I am also thrilled to see the backing for myself."
He acknowledged the immense warmth and affection he has experienced from the people of West Bengal.
"Didi (Mamata Banerjee) nominated me as the candidate for Baharampur in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and the residents there have embraced me as their own. Now, wherever I travel across Bengal, I receive similar love. This affection is not just for me; it extends to Didi and all other (Trinamool) candidates as well," he stated.
The Trinamool MP is optimistic about the party's future. "Trinamool will undoubtedly remain in power; it is not going anywhere for the next 40-50 years because the people here appreciate the party and Didi. She is particularly favored by women and children in the region," he elaborated.
Addressing the concerning reports about numerous names being removed from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision in the state, he expressed disappointment, saying, "It is unfortunate that despite providing the necessary documents, people's names have been taken off. However, Didi is advocating for their rights and will continue to do so in the future."
Pathan also reminisced about how Banerjee became the first sitting Chief Minister to personally represent the case against the Election Commission in the Supreme Court regarding the SIR.
"Before this, no Chief Minister had ventured into court to argue, but what Didi has done for the people of Bengal is commendable, and the public is recognizing her efforts," he concluded.
