Tripura's 80% population enrolled in Ayushman Bharat Health Account: CM Saha
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday, 10 July announced that nearly 80 per cent of the state's population has been enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), marking a significant milestone in the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) — one of the Centre's flagship digital healthcare programmes. Saha made the disclosure at the 3rd Mission Steering Group Meeting of the ABDM, chaired by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda.
Key Developments in Tripura's Digital Health Push
According to Chief Minister Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio in Tripura, the state has achieved 100 per cent completion in both the Health Facility Registry (HFR) and the Health Professional Registry (HPR). These registries are foundational components of the ABDM, enabling a unified digital ecosystem for healthcare providers and professionals across the state.
Saha further stated that approximately 18 lakh digital tokens have been issued to patients across 31 government hospitals through the 'Scan and Share' facility. This system has reportedly reduced patient waiting times and improved access to services at the point of care.
Model Hospital and Model District
The Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital at Agartala Government Medical College has been developed as a model hospital under the ABDM, with a range of patient services now delivered digitally. In addition, West Tripura district has been designated as a model district under the mission to pilot and scale various digital health initiatives.
What the Government Said
Chief Minister Saha outlined the next phase of reforms, stating that all government and private hospitals covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY) have been directed to implement the ABDM-Integrated Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). The state government has also initiated integration of the HMIS with various government health portals to enable seamless exchange of patient records across institutions.
Saha added that the National Health Claim Exchange will soon be rolled out across all government hospitals covered under PM-JAY and CM-JAY. Once operational, the system is expected to enable faster, paperless processing of health insurance claims.
Door-to-Door Campaign for Full Coverage
To bridge the remaining gap and achieve universal enrolment, a door-to-door awareness campaign has been launched across Tripura. The campaign targets full ABHA coverage for all citizens in the state, according to the Chief Minister.
The virtual meeting was attended by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health Jitin Prasada, Minister of State M. Srinivas (Commerce, Industry, Electronics and IT), NITI Aayog Member (Health) Ajay Kumar Sood, and Principal Scientific Advisor Mukesh Mahaling. Health Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha also participated. With Tripura positioning itself as a frontrunner in digital health adoption, the state's next benchmark will be closing the final 20 per cent coverage gap through its ongoing outreach drive.
