Agartala, Feb 15 (NationPress) Just two days after labeling former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhary as "cheats", state Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen publicly expressed his regret for his “undesired comments” on Friday.

In a post on Facebook, Sen conveyed his “regret” for the remarks made during a BJP event in North Tripura at Dharmanagar on February 12, where he referred to CPI-M politburo member Sarkar as 'cheater No. 1' and LoP Chaudhary as 'cheater No. 2'.

“I sincerely apologise for my unsolicited comments,” stated the actor-turned-politician.

The 71-year-old Sen was first elected to the state Assembly as a Congress candidate in the 2013 elections from the Dharmanagar constituency, and he was re-elected in 2018 and 2023 as a candidate for the BJP.

His apology came shortly after Chaudhary, a former minister, remarked that Sen’s comments on February 12 reflect his culture and political atmosphere.

While welcoming Sen's apology, LoP Chaudhury emphasized the need for him to foster a more conducive and democratic political climate in Dharmanagar. Chaudhury, also a member of the CPI-M Central Committee, stressed the importance of maintaining the dignity and decorum associated with the role of Assembly Speaker.

He stated: “We don’t know why the Speaker made such offensive remarks. People of the state would judge who the cheater is.”

Sen has frequently made headlines for his controversial comments, including a statement in 2021 where he claimed that a significant number of bank employees are leftist sympathizers who hinder national progress.

Additionally, he had previously urged his party members to “break backbones” of troublesome employees who claimed they hadn’t achieved anything in life.
