Agartala, May 17 (NationPress) In a remarkable advancement for Tripura's dairy industry, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alongside Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Minister of State SP Singh Baghel, inaugurated a 40,000 TLPD (Thousand Litres Per Day) milk processing facility of Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd at Bamutia in West Tripura district on Saturday.
This state-of-the-art facility is set to diminish the state's reliance on milk imports, improve local dairy infrastructure, and boost the rural economy by empowering farmers and producers.
Speaking to the media post-inauguration, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (also known as Lalan Singh) expressed optimism about Tripura’s ability to attain self-sufficiency in milk and fish production.
“The Government of India is confident that Tripura possesses the resources and capabilities necessary to become self-sufficient in dairy and fisheries. I have pledged full support from the Centre to the Chief Minister,” he stated.
He also disclosed plans for a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries to visit the state in June—pending the Chief Minister’s availability—to outline a detailed roadmap for achieving this objective.
“The Central government is dedicated to making Tripura independent in milk and fish production. If Chief Minister Manik Saha consents, we will convene officials from the Ministry, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) for a collaborative session in June,” Singh elaborated.
The Union Minister commended the developmental initiatives of the Tripura government under the Chief Minister's leadership and emphasized that empowering farmers in milk and fish production would greatly aid the state's economic progress.
Ratan Ghosh, chairman of Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, conveyed to IANS, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, developmental projects are advancing in Tripura. The Central government has allocated Rs 19.38 crore, with the state government contributing Rs 2 crore for this initiative. It will provide direct benefits to farmers throughout the state.”
