New Delhi, Nov 1 (NationPress) In a transformative step aimed at enhancing the digital experience for Aadhaar cardholders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out significant reforms to facilitate faster, simpler, and entirely online Aadhaar updates, starting from this Saturday.

The latest modifications will enable cardholders to directly update essential details such as their name, address, date of birth, or mobile number via the UIDAI portal, thereby eliminating the necessity to visit enrolment centres.

Submitted information will undergo digital verification using linked government documents, including PAN cards, passports, driving licences, or ration cards, ensuring both speed and accuracy.

Moreover, the government has mandated that linking Aadhaar with PAN must be accomplished by December 31, 2025, with unlinked PAN cards scheduled for deactivation on January 1, 2026.

New PAN applicants will also be required to complete an Aadhaar-based verification as part of the process.

Additionally, UIDAI has simplified the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure for banks and financial institutions, allowing users to verify their identity through video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or optional in-person verification.

The authority has introduced a revised fee structure effective from November 1. Under this new scheme, Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, while biometric updates will require Rs 125, and demographic information updates will be priced at Rs 75. Furthermore, home enrolment for the first applicant will incur a charge of Rs 700, with Rs 350 for each additional individual at the same address.

These digital-first reforms aim to enhance the security and usability of Aadhaar services, enabling citizens to effortlessly manage their identity records from the comfort of their homes.

Previously, cardholders were obligated to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for any corrections or updates. With the new reforms, the entire process has been transitioned online through the UIDAI portal.

Point of View

I believe that the UIDAI's initiative to digitize Aadhaar updates represents a pivotal advancement in public service. It aligns with the government's commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, fostering convenience, and ensuring secure identity management for citizens across the nation.
