Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bagalkot (Karnataka), March 31 (NationPress) During the ongoing by-election campaign, BJP's State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra visited the families of individuals detained in relation to the stone-pelting incident that transpired during the Shivaji Jayanti procession last month in Killagalli, Bagalkot, Karnataka. He offered his condolences to the parents affected by the arrests.
Following this, Vijayendra met with Ashok Baraker, a victim injured in the incident, who is currently receiving treatment at a private medical facility. He extended his support and expressed hopes for a quick recovery.
Vijayendra criticized the Karnataka government for prioritizing its electoral base over the welfare of the people, asserting that the BJP will consistently advocate for the community's interests.
Accompanying him during this visit were district president Shantagouda Patil, MLAs Shailendra Beldale, P.H. Poojar, Hanumant Nirani, former MLAs M.D. Lakshminarayana and Arun Shahapur, state party secretary Sharanu Tallikeri, and other party leaders.
It is notable that the stone-pelting incident occurred on February 19 during the Shivaji Jayanti procession near Panka Masjid in Bagalkot, leading to minor injuries for Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Goyal among others.
As a result, eight individuals were arrested, and prohibitory measures under Section 163 (BNSS) were enacted until February 24 to quell tensions.
The incident took place in the Killa Oni area as the procession passed in front of a mosque. Consequently, police enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) across Old Bagalkot, Navanagar, and Vidyagiri localities.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, accused the state government of fostering distrust among citizens by allegedly restricting Hindu religious practices under what he termed an anti-Hindu administration.
He remarked, "From stone pelting during Ganesh celebrations to assaults on Hanuma Mala devotees and disruptions of Navaratri processions, there have been numerous incidents targeting Hindu practices, culminating in the recent attack on the Shivaji procession in Bagalkot."
