New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) Female officers from the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and Delhi Police will take part in the inaugural celebration of the 10th anniversary of the government's flagship 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (BBBP) scheme on Wednesday, according to an official announcement made on Tuesday.
The event will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Health and Family Affairs J.P. Nadda alongside Union Minister of Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi.
Launched on January 22, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Panipat, Haryana, this scheme addresses the urgent issue of gender disparity and the decreasing Child Sex Ratio (CSR) by focusing on protecting, educating, and empowering the girl child.
Significant milestones achieved by the scheme include an enhancement in the national Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24, an increase in the gross enrolment ratio of girls at the secondary level from 75.51 percent in 2014-15 to 78 percent in 2023-24, a rise in institutional deliveries from 61 percent to 97.3 percent, and a remarkable uplift in first-trimester antenatal care registrations from 61 percent to 80.5 percent.
The anniversary event on Wednesday will also host women officers at the level of Deputy Secretary and above from Central Ministries. Additionally, girl students identified as My Bharat volunteers, Anganwadi supervisors/workers, and representatives from various states and districts have been invited to participate in the event, as stated in the announcement.
Representatives from international organizations such as UNICEF, UN Women, UNDP, UNFPA, World Bank, and The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) will also attend, according to the statement.
The decision by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the BBBP scheme aligns with the vision for a Viksit Bharat 2047 and the global transition from women’s development to women-led development, a priority emphasized during India’s G20 Presidency, the statement added.
The inaugural event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and will feature an oath-taking ceremony along with the launch of a compendium of best practices. It will also introduce the Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti portals.
Similar celebrations will be organized at state and district levels, with special programs scheduled for January 22, January 26, and March 8.
