Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that the AI Impact Summit being held in India is a significant achievement for the Global South. He emphasized the critical importance of using artificial intelligence responsibly and ethically in our fast-paced technological landscape.
During his speech at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the Prime Minister extended a warm welcome to global leaders and dignitaries, referring to the event as historic and unparalleled in its significance.
“I am thrilled to welcome you all to the largest and most momentous AI Summit globally. India, the host of this summit, represents one-sixth of the world's population and serves as a hub for the largest technology pool and ecosystem,” he remarked.
“It fills me with pride that the AI summit is taking place in India,” he added.
An AI-driven sign language interpretation was showcased during his address, highlighting the practical implications of the technology being deliberated at the summit.
The Prime Minister reflected on how technological revolutions often commence in ways that may be hard to grasp initially, stating, “When wireless transmission first began, no one foresaw the day when the world would connect in real time. Artificial Intelligence is another such pivotal transformation in human history. What we perceive and anticipate today is merely the dawn of its influence. AI is enhancing machine intelligence, but fundamentally, it amplifies human potential.”
He noted that the pace of technological evolution has surged dramatically in recent times.
In the past, it took decades to realize the full effect of a new technology. In contrast, he remarked, “The transition from machine learning to learning machines is now faster, deeper, and broader.”
Highlighting the enthusiasm of the youth, the Prime Minister noted that young people globally are not just adopting AI but are also actively influencing its future.
“The speed with which young individuals across the globe are embracing and taking ownership of AI is commendable. There is immense excitement, particularly among the young attendees at this AI Summit,” he stated.
Emphasizing that technological progress carries responsibilities, PM Modi urged the world to consider the long-term implications.
“We must think about the form of AI we will pass on to future generations. Hence, the pressing question is not what AI can accomplish in the future but rather how we can responsibly utilize AI today,” he asserted.
Drawing a comparison with nuclear energy, he stated, “Humanity has faced similar dilemmas before, especially with nuclear power. We have witnessed both its destructive capabilities and its positive contributions.”
Describing AI as a force for transformation, he cautioned against its potential misuse, saying, “AI is a transformative force. If misdirected, it can lead to destruction; if guided correctly, it can provide solutions.” He reiterated the necessity for the responsible and ethical implementation of artificial intelligence.
