Rio de Janeiro, July 7 (NationPress) India has utilized cutting-edge technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance both its health systems and climate initiatives, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
During the session entitled ‘Environment, COP30, and Global Health’ at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi elaborated on India’s initiatives aimed at improving health, climate, and environmental sustainability.
“India takes pride in having launched Ayushman Bharat, the largest health coverage scheme globally. We have harnessed the power of technology to enhance our health systems,” PM Modi noted in a post on the social media platform X.
He highlighted the role of vibrant traditional medicine systems in promoting wellness across the nation.
PM Modi also underscored the significance of technology in the 21st century.
“The advancement and prosperity of society heavily rely on technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence,” he expressed during his address, while also emphasizing the necessity for its ethical application.
“India’s stance on this issue is unequivocal: we view AI as a tool to amplify human values and capabilities. Adopting the mantra of ‘A.I. for All’, we are actively employing AI in various sectors including agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance,” the Prime Minister remarked.
He also spoke about India's commitments to climate justice and a sustainable future.
“Despite being the fastest-growing major economy, India was the first nation to meet its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of time,” the Prime Minister noted.
He outlined numerous initiatives that India has launched to enhance the environment, such as Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (tree for Mother), the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Green Hydrogen Mission, Global Biofuels Alliance, and International Big Cats Alliance.
Referring to ‘Climate Justice’ as a moral obligation for India, PM Modi stressed the importance of technology transfer and accessible financing, stating that without these elements, climate action would prove ineffective.
He affirmed that “climate change and environmental stewardship” have been integral to India’s heritage, making them a priority.
“For us, climate change transcends mere energy concerns; it’s about maintaining harmony between life and nature.”
Additionally, this issue is interconnected with health, as evidenced by the COVID-19 pandemic—a global zoonotic spillover event.
“The health of our populace and our planet are intertwined. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that viruses do not require visas, nor are solutions determined by borders! Thus, we must fortify our collective efforts to ensure a healthier planet,” PM Modi concluded.
He expressed gratitude to Brazil for facilitating discussions on critical issues that will shape the future of humanity.
