New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty has put forward the names of Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the head of Biocon, and PT Usha, president of the Indian Olympic Association, to further the initiative against obesity initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Monday, Murty was one of the ten individuals nominated by PM Modi to bolster the fight against obesity nationwide. This national movement aims to increase awareness regarding healthy dietary habits and is in line with Modi's Fit India campaign.

“I am pleased to nominate the following individuals to help amplify the fight against obesity and raise awareness about minimizing edible oil intake,” Murty mentioned in a social media post on platform X, tagging Mazumdar-Shaw, Usha, and former cricketer Anil Kumble.

She also put forth the names of Mukesh Bansal, the founder of CureFit and Myntra; former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi; BJP MP from Bengaluru Tejasvi Surya; and author Amish Tripathi, among others.

“I encourage each of them to nominate 10 more individuals to expand our movement!” expressed the philanthropist.

During his monthly radio show, 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, PM Modi praised India’s swift advancement toward becoming a global sports leader and highlighted the necessity of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In addition to Murty, PM Modi nominated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, businessman Anand Mahindra, actor-turned-politician Dinesh Lal Yadav (also known as Nirahua), Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker and Mirabai Chanu, actors Mohanlal and R. Madhavan, singer Shreya Ghoshal, and Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani.

Previously, Abdullah expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the obesity campaign launched by PM Modi.

"I’m delighted to join the campaign against obesity led by PM @narendramodi ji. Obesity leads to various lifestyle-related health complications such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, strokes, and respiratory issues, not to mention mental health disorders like anxiety and depression," the CM shared on platform X.
