Gurugram, March 24 (NationPress) SSP Chawrasia, a two-time champion and a prominent figure in Indian golf, is ready to participate in the upcoming Hero Indian Open scheduled for this week at the DLF Golf and Country Club.
The 2025 iteration of this prestigious tournament, featuring a prize fund of US$ 2.25 million, will take place from March 27-30, 2025.
Chawrasia is among the elite group of only three players to have clinched the Hero Indian Open title in consecutive years, accomplishing this remarkable achievement in 2016 and 2017. For the 2025 edition, he has received a special invitation from Dr. Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, the title sponsor of this esteemed event.
Chawrasia boasts an impressive record at this tournament, having been a runner-up four times (in 2015, 2013, 2006, and 1999) in addition to his two victories in 2016 and 2017. Remarkably, he finished second or better every year between 2013 and 2017, with the HIO not occurring in 2014 due to scheduling adjustments.
At 46 years old, Chawrasia has also achieved the distinction of winning a DP World Tour event at DLF on two separate occasions: the 2014 Avantha Masters and the 2017 Hero Indian Open. His other two DPWT victories came at the Emaar Masters in 2008 at the DGC and the HIO at the Delhi Golf Club in 2016, totaling four wins on the DP World Tour and six international titles overall.
Chawrasia is one of three past champions participating in the 2025 edition, alongside Keita Nakajima (2024) and Marcel Siem (2023).
The competition will feature a total of 138 players, including two recent champions: Richard Mansell, who triumphed at the Porsche Singapore Classic on Sunday, and Joshua Berry, who emerged victorious at the Kolkata Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour, both securing their spots in the HIO.
The 2025 Hero Indian Open promises to be one of the strongest fields ever assembled on Indian soil, showcasing five players who have won on the DPWT this season: Mansell (Singapore Classic), Callum Hill (Joburg Open), John Parry (AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open), Johannes Veerman (Nedbank Golf), and Ryggs Johnston (ISPS Handa Australian Open).
Four of the current Top 10 players on the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai rankings are participating, including Parry (3rd), Daniel Hillier (5th), Veerman (9th), and Mansell (10th).
Additionally, 12 winners from the 2024 DPWT season will also be competing in this field.
