David Wiese of Jaffna Titans Advocates for the Skill-Enhancing T10 Format

Kandy, Dec 12 (NationPress) South Africa's David Wiese, who leads the Jaffna Titans in the 2024 Lanka T10 Super League, is of the opinion that the T10 format is extremely beneficial for cricketers to refine their skills.

Wiese stated, "In any format, particularly in T10, there is a very limited margin for error as a bowler. You cannot afford to be too far off, and it is essential to master your skills. Therefore, T10 is an excellent format for players to develop their abilities," after his team achieved victory in the inaugural match of the Lanka T10 Super League at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

The right-handed batsman expressed his support for the shortest version of the game, noting its potential to gain worldwide popularity.

"I believe there is a significant opportunity for T10, especially in tapping into emerging markets. It offers a fantastic avenue for the game to expand in these regions, although I do feel that shorter formats can sometimes lead to one-sided matches where one player can dominate the game," Wiese remarked.

"Longer formats tend to be purer, so I hope that players continue to focus on the longer versions, such as T20s, 50 overs, and Test matches, but T10 is certainly gaining traction," he added.

Reflecting on his experience in Sri Lanka, Wiese expressed his excitement about participating in the competition and commended the passion of local fans for cricket.

"It's wonderful to be here in Sri Lanka. It's impressive that this format has taken off and had a strong start. Fans have shown up in great numbers, providing excellent support. This is just day one, so I hope this enthusiasm continues, as the people here have a genuine love for the game," the 39-year-old noted.

Wiese praised young Sri Lankan spinner Treveen Mathew for his remarkable performance in the opening match, where he secured a four-wicket haul against the Hambantota Bangla Tigers.

"It's fantastic to witness such emerging talent. He is our rising star, and as a developing spinner, it's a wonderful opportunity for him. He truly turned the game around for us by taking four wickets in the first match. I’m really pleased for him," he concluded.
