Kandy, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Hambantota Bangla Tigers are gearing up to challenge the Jaffna Titans in the championship match of the Lanka T10 Super League at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium after successfully defeating the Galle Marvels in the Qualifier 2 match held here on Wednesday.

In pursuit of a modest target of 91 runs, Hambantota encountered some early setbacks but a crucial partnership of 47 runs between Shevon Daniel and captain Dasun Shanaka realigned their efforts. Daniel contributed 36 runs off 17 balls, while Shanaka added 20 runs off just 8 deliveries. Additionally, wicket-keeper batter Kusal Perera made a significant impact with 22 runs off 10 balls. Maheesh Theekshana excelled with the ball, taking three wickets.

Prior to this, the bowlers from Hambantota exhibited an impressive performance, restricting the Galle Marvels to 90/9 in their 10 overs. The Marvels struggled to maintain their wickets, finding themselves at 61/8 at one point. It was Movin Subasingha's unbeaten 32 runs off 14 balls that provided a lifeline to the innings. In terms of bowling, Eshan Malinga also claimed three wickets, while Dhananjaya Lakshan, Ratnayake, and Isuru Udana each secured two wickets.

GALLE MARVELS TRIUMPH IN ELIMINATOR

The Galle Marvels achieved a remarkable victory against the Kandy Bolts by 6 wickets in an electrifying Eliminator match. Batting first, Kandy amassed 120/4 in their 10 overs, thanks to an outstanding performance from George Munsey, who scored 61 runs off 27 balls, hitting four sixes and five fours. Alongside Munsey, Dinesh Chandimal contributed 30 runs off 14 balls before retiring hurt. However, the Galle Marvels displayed a batting clinic during their chase, reaching the target in the 9th over.

Despite losing a couple of early wickets, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Lahiru Udara, and later Shakib Al Hasan ensured the team crossed the finish line. Rajapaksa was the top scorer with a brisk 42 runs off 21 balls, while Udara added 19 runs off 12 balls. The Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib provided a pivotal contribution with an unbeaten 29 runs off just 8 balls, guiding the team to victory.

With this triumph, the Galle Marvels advanced to the Qualifier 2.
