Lanka T10 Super League: Jaffna Titans Secure Final Spot with Victory over Hambantota Bangla Tigers

Kandy (Sri Lanka), Dec 18 (NationPress) The Jaffna Titans earned their place in the final by defeating the Hambantota Bangla Tigers by 39 runs during Qualifier 1 of the Lanka T10 Super League at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

The Titans, in outstanding form throughout the tournament, amassed a formidable score of 124/5 in just 10 overs.

Opening batsman and wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis showcased his talent with a brilliant innings of 47 runs off 25 balls, featuring four sixes and two fours. Additionally, Tom Abell, who had to retire hurt, contributed 23 runs off 12 balls, while captain David Wiese remained not out with 18 runs off merely 5 balls.

In their response, the Hambantota Bangla Tigers suffered early setbacks, finding themselves in a precarious position at 54/6. Ultimately, they were bowled out for 85 runs. Young Sri Lankan spinner Treven Mathew made headlines with an impressive four-wicket haul, conceding just 13 runs in 2 overs.

Pramod Madushan took two wickets, while Nuwan Thushara and George Garton each claimed one wicket.

With this victory, the Jaffna Titans become the first team to reach the finals of the tournament. However, the Hambantota Bangla Tigers are not out of contention yet, as they will compete in Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator match featuring the Galle Marvels and the Kandy Bolts.
