Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) In a significant tribute to athletic prowess and maritime solidarity, P.T. Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association and a Member of Parliament, officially inaugurated the National Maritime Games 2025 on Monday at IMU, Palm Beach Road, Navi Mumbai.
During her speech, P.T. Usha motivated countless maritime cadets and athletes with her impactful message.
“True sportsmanship overrides all else. In the realm of sports, there are no losers — every participant emerges as a winner. It transcends medals; it’s about the bravery, discipline, and integrity that each athlete contributes to the field,” she emphasized.
She also conveyed her happiness at witnessing the involvement of every cadet participating in the Games, highlighting the sense of unity and discipline exhibited by India's maritime community.
The grand inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished assembly of leaders from both the maritime and sports sectors. Shyam Jagannath, Director General of Shipping, and Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General of Shipping, were among the leading dignitaries present. They were accompanied by DIG Syed Mohammed of the Indian Coast Guard, Captain B.K. Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of the Shipping Corporation of India, and Pavithran Kallada, Deputy MD, PSA India.
Also in attendance were Namdev Shirgaonkar, Secretary General of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, Captain Girish Phadnis, Competition Director of the Indian Maritime Games and President of the Yachting Association of Maharashtra, along with Mrs. Kiran Phadnis, Director of K2K Sports Management, instrumental in orchestrating the event. Maritime academia was represented by Captain Mihir Chandra, Director of the Indian Maritime University, and Captain Vivek Bhandarkar, among other eminent figures from the shipping, ports, and logistics industries.
The National Maritime Games 2025 will showcase over 20 sporting events, including Athletics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom, Cricket, Chess, Golf, Futsal, Pickleball, and Indoor Rowing, serving as a vibrant platform to promote fitness, sportsmanship, and unity within India’s maritime community.
