Bengaluru, April 11 (NationPress) The mentor of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dinesh Karthik, expressed his dissatisfaction with the pitch provided for the team's initial two games of the IPL 2025 season after a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
This marked RCB's second successive home defeat, and Karthik was quick to criticize the curator for not delivering favorable pitch conditions as it proved to be quite difficult for batsmen.
"In the initial two matches, we have requested quality pitches. However, it has turned out to be a challenge for batters. We strive to optimize our performance with the conditions we are given. Nevertheless, we will discuss this with him (the curator). We have faith in his abilities to execute his role," stated Karthik during the post-match press briefing.
"Clearly, this pitch is not conducive for batters. It has posed a significant challenge. That has been the scenario across both matches we've participated in," he added.
Batting first, RCB managed to post 163/7, with both Phil Salt and Tim David contributing identical scores of 37, while Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets each.
In response, KL Rahul's stellar performance of 93 not out, featuring six sixes and seven fours, propelled Delhi to their fourth consecutive victory, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament.
Karthik further mentioned that the rain during Delhi's chase aided in settling the pitch, making it easier for batting.
"The pitch was somewhat sticky. After the initial four overs and until the 13th over, we were very much in contention. Although we had a few hiccups with the bat, we managed to reach a respectable total. They were struggling at 50 for 4," he remarked.
"In the first match (against GT), there was dew, which made batting in the second innings much easier. Today, the dew was not as significant. Unfortunately for us, a light rain occurred, which visibly altered the pitch conditions. The shots they executed were not feasible in the first innings," the former wicketkeeper concluded.
