Lucknow, Sep 23 (NationPress) The president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, took aim at the BJP on Tuesday, criticizing their assertions regarding the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms. He accused the party leaders of “setting a world record in dishonesty.”
This statement followed the circulation of a video featuring BJP MP and actor Ravi Kishan, where he claimed that following the GST reforms, essential items like clothes, televisions, and other consumer goods are now available at a “50 per cent discount.”
In the video, Kishan also remarked that this discount is a gift from PM Modi to the public for ensuring his third term in office.
Akhilesh Yadav shared this video on his social media account, ridiculing the BJP.
He stated, “Those who claim that all products are available at a 50 per cent discount with examples, yet know nothing about it, should refrain from speaking. They might not mean harm, but their ignorance is evident.”
He further mentioned, “They are likely receiving a call from Delhi or the Finance Minister, reprimanding them under the guise of an explanation. Such calls won't originate from Lucknow, as the situation here is no better. If the public confronts these individuals in the marketplace and reveals the truth, perhaps they will finally understand.”
Continuing his criticism, the SP leader remarked, “BJP officials are breaking records in deceit.”
On a parallel note, the BJP has initiated a campaign to enhance awareness regarding the GST reforms among the business community and the general public.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath engaged with business owners and traders in Gorakhpur, while Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak conducted meetings in Lucknow. Additionally, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna also held discussions in the state capital.
The government asserts that GST slabs have been streamlined, imposing a 5 per cent tax on agricultural machinery, 5 per cent on garments priced below Rs 2,500, zero per cent on stationery, 5 per cent on various food items, and zero per cent on specific medicines.
Conversely, opposition members argue that BJP leaders are misleading the populace with untrue assertions.
