Kolkata, May 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, issued a strong warning against the dissemination of false information that could heighten internal conflicts following 'Operation Sindoor', which targets terrorist strongholds in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
She announced that her government would implement strict measures against those involved in spreading misleading news.
“If anyone disseminates fake news via any platform, including Facebook or YouTube, we will take action against the individuals responsible,” Chief Minister Banerjee declared during a brief media session on Wednesday, where she declined to answer any questions from the press.
Additionally, Chief Minister Banerjee refrained from discussing details regarding a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah that included Chief Ministers from states with international borders, which she attended due to West Bengal's connections with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.
“I will not disclose any information about the meeting's discussions. I urge you not to ask questions today. This is not the time for spreading misinformation. It is crucial to share accurate news. Therefore, I request everyone to avoid sharing speculative or rumor-based information,” she emphasized.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Banerjee urged media outlets to cease airing debates on television, given the current national climate.
“Any misinformation arising from statements made during these debates could increase tensions. If any statements lead to unrest or violence, the speaker should be held accountable,” Mamata Banerjee stated.
During her address, she expressed concerns about potential exploitation by traders and businesses, who might take advantage of the situation to artificially inflate food prices in retail markets.
“We will hold a meeting tomorrow to address this issue. We will take all necessary measures to prevent the artificial inflation of food prices,” the Chief Minister assured.
