New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The Delhi government has pledged to take action against any government officials found culpable in an ongoing investigation into the prior AAP government’s unlawful registration of women beneficiaries for a monthly allowance of Rs 2,100.

In response to a query from BJP MLA Manoj Shokeen of Nangloi Jat, Minister Parvesh Verma informed the House that the investigation aims to pinpoint those accountable for the malpractices.

“If any personnel within the government is deemed guilty in the inquiry, we will initiate appropriate actions,” stated Verma.

Just two months prior to the Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP government had initiated a registration campaign for the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana,’ which promised a monthly financial support of Rs 2,100 for women.

In a significant setback for the former AAP government, the scheme was annulled by the Delhi government’s own Department of Women and Child Development, which criticized the unauthorized collection of personal data.

Additionally, Minister Verma provided an update on the BJP government’s Mahila Samridhi Yojana, which offers Rs 2,500 monthly to women. He mentioned that a four-member panel is currently reviewing the matter, with the file now reaching the appropriate authority, and a notification regarding this scheme is anticipated shortly.

“The registration for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana will commence in all 70 Assembly constituencies once the guidelines are established,” Verma noted, emphasizing that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had already declared in her budget speech that Rs 5,100 crore has been allocated for it.

In a jab at an opposition AAP legislator who inquired about a timeline for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, Verma remarked, “It would have been more appropriate had the honorable member posed a similar question in February 2024, when former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced in the Budget that Rs 1,000 would be disbursed to women.”

“However, during that time, the member lacked the courage to question Kejriwal,” Verma added.

Previously, AAP legislators had chanted slogans and called for the swift implementation of the BJP's Mahila Samridhi Yojana, which promises Rs 2,500 monthly support for women.

As the uproar continued, Speaker Vijender Gupta suspended over a dozen opposition legislators, including Leader of the Opposition Atishi, for unruly conduct.

After being escorted out, Atishi informed reporters that the opposition MLAs were removed from the House for demanding clarification regarding the Rs 2,500 monthly allowance for women in Delhi.

“Delhi women have been deceived by the BJP as Rs 2,500 have not been credited to their bank accounts. When our legislator requested a deadline for the implementation of the scheme, our members were expelled from the House one after another,” she stated.
