What is the new Rs 50,000-a-month tourism fellowship for youth in Delhi?

New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled a new initiative on Monday: the 'Tourism and Heritage Fellowship Programme'. This program is designed to assist 40 young individuals, providing them with a monthly stipend of Rs 50,000 to promote and safeguard the cultural and historical heritage of the capital.

Each year, 40 participants will be chosen to receive a certificate upon completing the year-long fellowship.

CM Gupta noted that this initiative aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, which focuses on enhancing domestic capabilities and traditional knowledge systems while minimizing reliance on external consultants.

The fellowship will act as a conduit for young citizens to engage directly with governmental projects and help position Delhi as a dynamic, inclusive, and world-class tourism hub.

Further elaborating, the Chief Minister mentioned that the program will be administered by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).

Its goal is to link youth, researchers, and professionals interested in the tourism sector with the rich heritage of Delhi while boosting institutional capacity within the tourism field.

As part of the fellowship, an annual selection of 40 fellows will occur.

Their duties will encompass contributing to heritage walks, guided tours, creating digital and promotional content, tourism marketing, event management, operations at locations like Delhi Haat and the Garden of Five Senses, tourist information centres, film shoot coordination, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities.

Applicants should be under 35 years old and hold at least a graduate degree or an equivalent qualification. Candidates with a degree or postgraduate qualification in tourism will receive preference.

Additionally, applicants must possess a minimum of one year of formal experience in the tourism or related sector, along with proficiency in both Hindi and English and strong digital skills.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the fellowship serves as a powerful medium for Delhi’s youth to directly connect with the government and become agents of change.

She reiterated that the program is in harmony with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by fostering domestic talent and reducing dependence on external expertise.

She concluded by stating that the Delhi government is dedicated to channeling the energy of young citizens in a creative and constructive manner, aiming to give Delhi's heritage and culture a global identity.
