Mumbai, Aug 6 (NationPress) Following Uttarakhand, Gujarat is set to be the second state in India to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). In light of this development, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey emphasized the necessity of formulating the draft and regulations in collaboration with the Opposition to prevent the impression of unilateral decision-making.

In an interview with IANS, Anand Dubey remarked, “If the Gujarat government intends to introduce the Uniform Civil Code during the Monsoon Session, that is their prerogative. The UCC ensures that every individual is entitled to the same legal framework, regardless of their caste or religion. However, it is crucial that the draft and regulations are created in consultation with the Opposition. A unilateral approach would be regrettable and could be perceived as governmental overreach.”

Additionally, the Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson addressed the ongoing controversy involving the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who recently faced criticism from the Supreme Court regarding his comments on the 2020 Galwan clash with China.

A bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Joymalya Bagchi expressed dissatisfaction with LoP Gandhi’s assertion that 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory had been seized by China, stating, “If he were a true Indian, he would not have made such claims.”

The INDIA Bloc has defended LoP Gandhi, contending that it is inappropriate for the judiciary to determine who qualifies as a “true Indian.”

“Rahul Gandhi serves as the LoP and brings forth significant national concerns. It is unacceptable for China to claim even a single inch of Indian territory. We must oppose this. The border dispute has been ongoing since 1962, and in 2020, we lost 20 soldiers in the conflict. LoP Rahul Gandhi is voicing concerns about China’s actions in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh, as well as opposing its claims over Kailash Mansarovar. Nevertheless, the court’s remarks have provided the BJP an opportunity to criticize him. Rahul Gandhi holds the judiciary in high regard and has complied with all summons,” he stated.

Dubey also condemned the reported attack on the convoy of West Bengal Assembly LoP Suvendu Adhikari in Cooch Behar District, where Adhikari claimed the incident could have had deadly consequences if he had not been traveling in a bulletproof vehicle.

“I denounce the assault on Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy. Maintaining law and order in West Bengal falls under the jurisdiction of the Mamata Banerjee government. Those responsible for assaulting any political leader must be apprehended and prosecuted. An investigation should determine which party, leader, or organization the attackers were affiliated with. Violence has no place in politics. I urge both the central and state governments to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure full protection for Adhikari. I advise him to remain vigilant,” he told IANS.

On the catastrophic cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district, Dubey expressed profound sorrow.

“This is a devastating natural catastrophe, and my heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the victims. I wish a swift recovery for the injured. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with the central government, NDRF, SDRF, and the Army, are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I urge the government to enforce strict regulations on hotels and structures built on riverbanks and mountains to minimize future destruction. While we cannot avoid natural disasters, we can lessen their impact. I hope the missing individuals are located soon and the injured recover swiftly,” he concluded.

Point of View

It is vital to recognize the implications of implementing significant legal reforms like the UCC without broad consensus. While the UCC aims to ensure equality before the law, its acceptance hinges on collaborative dialogue among political factions. Inclusion fosters trust and mitigates perceptions of autocratic governance.
