This day is commemorated nationwide but holds particular importance in Jammu and Kashmir, where numerous local police officers have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
“We humbly pay our respects to the memories of all police martyrs and express our gratitude to the courageous personnel who selflessly work to maintain the integrity of our nation and the safety of its people,” stated the L-G on X.
At Zeewan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also honored the police martyrs, reflecting on their noble sacrifices made while on duty.
A grand commemoration parade occurred at the Zeewan headquarters of the J&K Armed Police, where Manoj Sinha took the salute.
The L-G remembered the 1,614 personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that their sacrifices transcend monetary value, and assured that the administration will support the families of martyrs to avoid hardships.
“Our police personnel do not take breaks, nor do they celebrate festivals. Their only commitment is their Kartavya (duty),” he remarked.
The L-G also asserted that over the last five years, the administration has thwarted the efforts of terrorists and their backers in pursuing harmful agendas.
Meanwhile, Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP of the Jammu Zone, reported that around 120 anti-terror operations are conducted daily in the Jammu division aimed at neutralizing foreign terrorists, which poses a significant challenge.
IGP Tuti noted that foreign terrorists in the higher altitudes have been a problem for two years, but the counter-terrorism infrastructure in Jammu has been fortified.
Tributes were also paid to police martyrs at various district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir, where the families of martyrs were honored as special guests. Senior officials present at these events reiterated their commitment to ensuring that these families remain an esteemed part of the larger police community.
