Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police have detained a young woman in connection with the theft of gold jewellery, cash, and essential documents from a couple visiting from Bihar, as confirmed by the police on Wednesday.
The arrest occurred late on Tuesday night after the couple lodged a complaint at the Girish Park police station. Fortunately, the stolen items have been successfully retrieved.
As per police sources, the Bihar couple boarded a bus at Mahajati Sadan in North Kolkata. Upon disembarking, they realized their bag had been taken. It contained gold jewellery, cash, and important documents.
Following the incident on the afternoon of January 22, Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Katihar district in Bihar, filed a report at the Girish Park police station on the same day.
According to the complaint, the thief stole two gold bangles, a necklace, and a bracelet from his wife’s bag, totaling a weight of 53 grams. In addition to the jewellery, Rs 25,000 in cash and the original Aadhaar card were also taken.
The police acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of Pinky Roy, a 26-year-old from Asansol.
After interrogating the arrested woman, the police recovered the stolen money and jewellery, along with Sandeep Kumar's documents. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 5.
“The quick response from our officers was pivotal in apprehending the accused. An investigation was initiated immediately upon receiving the couple's complaint. The theft occurred on the bus, and after several days of thorough investigation, the young woman was apprehended. All stolen items have been recovered,” stated a senior officer of the Kolkata Police.
The police are now investigating whether any accomplices were involved or if the young woman acted independently. They are also looking into whether similar crimes have occurred using similar tactics in the past.
