Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp critique of the former AAP-led government in Delhi, accusing it of obstructing crucial development initiatives that could benefit the citizens. In contrast, he praised the administration of Rekha Gupta for advancing numerous development projects aimed at enhancing the capital's infrastructure.
During the event, PM Modi laid the groundwork and inaugurated several developmental initiatives totaling over Rs 33,500 crore in New Delhi.
Speaking to a large crowd at a DDA Ground in Burari, PM Modi stated, "Today, we gather to accelerate Delhi's path toward progress. We have inaugurated and initiated projects amounting to Rs 33,500 crore. This includes expanding metro connectivity and creating residential facilities for government employees, thereby enhancing the services available in our national capital."
The Prime Minister also presented cards to beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat and PM Swanidhi schemes.
"A year ago, you placed your trust in the BJP's double-engine government, and the results are becoming evident. I congratulate everyone on these new developmental projects," he remarked.
In observance of International Women's Day, PM Modi expressed, "India is embarking on a new era of women's empowerment. Under the capable leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, the capital is undergoing significant development. Women are advancing in all spheres—politics, administration, science, sports, and social initiatives, with renewed vigor."
"When one envisions the vibrant democracy of India, Delhi is often the first image that comes to mind. It is not just our nation’s capital but also a representation of India's spirit. Thus, the development of Delhi is intrinsically linked to our country's image," he added.
He further emphasized, "The more advanced and interconnected Delhi becomes, the more confidently India can present itself. It brings me joy to see our capital progressing with enhanced facilities and infrastructure."
Reflecting on the past, PM Modi noted, "Previously, discussions about Delhi were predominantly negative. Commutes across the city were time-consuming, and people spent hours waiting at bus stops. Now, however, the narrative is changing for the better."
He highlighted the recent launch of the Namo Bharat train, which connects Delhi with Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh.
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for Delhi Metro projects valued at approximately Rs 18,300 crore, including two new corridors. These corridors are the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) stretching around 12.3 km and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park (Magenta Line) covering about 9.9 km. These developments will greatly improve connectivity for several regions in Delhi, including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, and Khajuri Khas.
PM Modi asserted, "No other major city globally has such extensive connectivity. The newly launched projects will significantly benefit the residents of the national capital, particularly those in East and North East Delhi. Daily commutes will soon become much more manageable for everyone."
He also laid the foundation for three additional corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro, totaling around 16.10 km. These corridors include routes from R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
These new routes will offer direct access to key locations in the national capital, enhancing travel for residents commuting between Noida, South Delhi, and the airport.
Addressing the previous AAP government, PM Modi remarked, "These development initiatives highlight the importance of freeing Delhi from the 'AAPda'. Had the AAPda government not been in power, the Metro Phase-4 project would have been completed long ago. For political gain, they stalled progress for countless Delhiites."
"Since the BJP government took office, significant progress has been made," he added, pointing to new projects such as DTC, DEVI, and electric buses initiated by the Rekha Gupta administration.
With the development of the peripheral expressway, PM Modi stated that millions of vehicles can now avoid entering the city. He also mentioned the BJP government's commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River, with projects worth crores already underway.
"The AAPda government remained indifferent to the issues facing Delhiites and severely damaged the health sector. We wrote to them urging the implementation of the Ayushman Scheme, but the AAPda government showed no concern for the underprivileged," he stated.
"In just the past year, several Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been established here. The Ayushman scheme is now in effect, benefiting numerous individuals. The difference is evident. While the AAPda was preoccupied with 'less work, more excuses' (Kaam kam, bahane jyada), our development model for Delhi is 'stop the excuses, start the work' (bahane band, kaam shuru)," he concluded.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan in Sarojini Nagar and handed over keys to female allottees.
These projects, located in areas such as Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri, are part of the government's initiative to modernize GPRA colonies and establish world-class infrastructure for government employees and administrative offices.
With an investment of Rs 15,200 crore under the GPRA plan, the redevelopment is being executed through a self-sustainable financial model that does not burden taxpayers.
This model allows the government to develop and monetize a small portion of the project area for commercial and residential use to finance the overall project.
Revenues generated will fund the modernization of government housing, infrastructure, and public amenities.
The redevelopment plan aims to deliver over 9,350 modern flats for government employees, along with creating approximately 48 lakh square feet of office space, which will enhance administrative efficiency and generate potential revenue.
