Amaravati, April 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, expressed on Tuesday that the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) achieving criticality at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, is a moment of immense pride for every Indian and a significant advancement in India's civil nuclear ambitions.

"The indigenously constructed Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor located at Kalpakkam has successfully attained criticality. This represents a pivotal milestone in the second phase of India's nuclear program," the Chief Minister stated via a post on the social media platform X.

"This achievement propels us closer to utilizing our abundant thorium reserves in the third stage, fortifying our commitment to long-term energy security under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. Kudos to our dedicated scientists and engineers for this extraordinary accomplishment," he further noted.

Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also congratulated the scientific community.

"Heartfelt congratulations to our exceptional scientists and engineers at IGCAR, BHAVINI, and the entire Department of Atomic Energy! Your unwavering commitment has resulted in a historic achievement for India. The indigenously constructed Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has achieved its first criticality, marking a substantial progress in our nuclear journey. This 500 MW reactor signifies a significant stride toward clean and secure energy for future generations, bringing us closer to utilizing our vast thorium reserves for genuine energy independence. Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, stated that the achievement of criticality by the indigenously designed Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam is a reflection of India's scientific excellence and engineering capabilities.

"This advanced reactor not only generates more fuel than it consumes but also brings us nearer to unlocking the full potential of our extensive thorium reserves in the third phase of our nuclear vision," he added.
