New Delhi, July 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized the Opposition on Tuesday for questioning the timing of Operation Mahadev, an operation in which Indian forces eliminated three Pakistani terrorists linked to the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
In a passionate address during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, PM Modi mocked the Opposition's concerns regarding the recent anti-terror initiative, accusing them of politicizing matters of national security.
"For weeks, they have been asking, 'What about the Pahalgam terrorists?' Now that action has been taken, they question the timing," stated the Prime Minister. "What do they expect us to wait for, a Saawan Monday to launch an operation named Mahadev?"
His comments came in response to significant criticism from various Opposition figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the Samajwadi Party, who questioned the timing of the operation earlier in the day, stating, "Why did the encounter occur yesterday? All parties had shown support when appropriate," which led to backlash from government representatives.
PM Modi also accused the Congress party of inadvertently echoing the narrative of Pakistan, as several leaders demanded evidence that the Pahalgam attackers originated from across the border.
“The nation is appalled. Congress is asking, 'Give us proof that the terrorists were from Pakistan.' This is exactly what Pakistan is claiming. Is Congress now speaking Pakistan’s language?” PM Modi challenged. He alleged that by doubting the attackers’ origins, the party was effectively giving a 'clean chit' to Pakistan.
Operation Mahadev was initiated following the horrific massacre of 26 civilians in Pahalgam earlier this year. Conducted by a collaborative effort of the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, the operation successfully eliminated three terrorists associated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit backed by Pakistan.
The BJP has positioned itself as a staunch defender of national security, while the Opposition faces criticism for what the ruling party categorizes as “irresponsible politicking amid terror.”
