Los Angeles, Jan 28 (NationPress) Actress and singer Selena Gomez has removed a video in which she emotionally expressed her sorrow over the deportations of undocumented immigrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
The video sparked significant backlash from conservative critics online, as reported by 'Variety'.
“I just wanted to say that I’m truly sorry,” a tearful Gomez shared in a video on her Instagram Story on Monday. “All my people are being targeted, especially the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could make a difference but I can’t. I don’t know how. I’ll do everything I can, I promise.”
According to 'Variety', several conservative commentators condemned her for showing concern for undocumented immigrants facing deportation. Subsequently, Selena deleted the video and posted a now-removed response on her Instagram Story, stating, “Apparently it’s not acceptable to show compassion for people.”
Right-wing political commentator Tomi Lahren criticized the actress in a video on X, labeling her a “certified moron.”
“This is why we don’t take political guidance from Disney stars,” she remarked.
Since the inauguration of President Trump, his administration has intensified efforts to deport undocumented immigrants from the nation. On Sunday, ICE reported 956 arrests and lodged 554 detainers in just one day.
Selena has previously voiced her discontent with the Trump administration. In an October interview with 'Variety' during the Los Angeles premiere of her Oscar-nominated musical 'Emilia Perez', Gomez expressed her desire to “definitely stand by my people.” This statement followed comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s racist comments about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally in New York.
Earlier, the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ actress, age 32, celebrated New Year's Eve by posting various videos and photos of herself with her music producer boyfriend Benny Blanco, shortly after their engagement.
Selena began her slideshow with a picture of a paper plate with beans, on which someone had inscribed, “I love you” in ink, as reported by ‘People’ magazine.
She also shared an intimate selfie with Blanco and a snapshot from a glamorous couple's outing, where he kissed her hand.
