Chennai, Feb 25 (NationPress) Actor Tovino Thomas, known for portraying Jathin Ramdas in Lucifer, is set to reprise this role in the sequel Empuraan. He reveals that his character’s journey takes a completely new direction in this follow-up and develops even more!
On Tuesday, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal introduced Jathin Ramdas as the character portrayed by Tovino Thomas in director Prithviraj’s highly anticipated political action drama L2: Empuraan (L2E).
Mohanlal shared on his X timeline, “Character No 4 Tovino Thomas as Jathin Ramdas in #L2E #EMPURAAN.” He also included a link to a YouTube video where Tovino discusses his character.
“I took on the role of Jathin Ramdas in Lucifer, and naturally, I am back for Empuraan. Although my role in Lucifer consisted of just a few scenes, I was honored to portray a character with an amazing arc. Rajuettan and Murali Chettan provided me with that opportunity. The character intrigued me because he starts as a young man, the son of a political figure, who has no interest in politics and eventually transforms into a politician, ultimately being sworn in as the chief minister,” Tovino reflected.
“When the sequel was announced, I was eager to discover how my character would develop. Learning about the script of Empuraan and how my role would evolve only intensified my interest, as his character arc takes a completely new turn. Additionally, this arc expands significantly in Empuraan. I have one line that I have repeated the most on various platforms, and that is from Lucifer: 'I know how to wear a mundu and if needed, I know how to fold it up too.'
“At one point, I reminded Rajuettan, ‘Chetta, please don't ruin my golden goose. That's what's keeping me afloat.’ That is the level of visibility and reach this character has provided me. Interestingly, in Lucifer, I never had a scene with Lalettan, but in Empuraan, we do share a scene together. I believe my best performance in this film is in that particular scene. After finishing the dubbing, I felt that performing alongside such talented actors truly brings out the best in you. That mutual interaction is enough to elevate a character,” Tovino expressed.
The Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan (L2E) is directed by actor Prithviraj and produced collaboratively by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran. The film’s narrative is crafted by Murali Gopy, while the musical score is composed by Deepak Dev. Cinematography is handled by Sujith Vaassudev, and editing is done by Akhilesh Mohan.
It’s worth mentioning that during the early phases of the project, actor Prithviraj revealed that this film would be a commercial entertainer featuring Mohanlal. Murali Gopy also mentioned that this is the second installment in a trilogy.
The first part of the franchise, Lucifer, released in 2019 and marked Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial debut. It became a blockbuster in just eight days, grossing over Rs 200 crore, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date.
As expected, the anticipation for the sequel, set to release on March 27 this year, has reached new heights.
