- The event emphasizes the vital role of gas in future energy strategies.
New Delhi, July 24 (NationPress) India is forging ahead with a robust and visionary strategy to redefine its energy landscape, with natural gas taking center stage in this transformation, remarked Shishir Priyadarshi, President of the Chintan Research Foundation (CRF), on Thursday.
During an event hosted by the CRF, Priyadarshi indicated that India plans to elevate the proportion of gas in its energy portfolio from the existing 7 percent to 15 percent by 2030.
"The government has developed a highly ambitious gas policy aimed at ensuring that gas accounts for about 15 percent of India’s energy mix by 2030," he explained.
Describing this initiative as "ambitious yet necessary," Priyadarshi emphasized that natural gas will act as a vital bridge as India shifts from fossil fuels to cleaner, non-fossil energy alternatives.
He pointed out that the nation is currently at a pivotal moment in its energy evolution.
"India finds itself at a critical inflection point. On one side, we aspire to be a developed nation by 2047—Viksit Bharat is not merely a vision, but a national objective. Simultaneously, we are committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070," he stated.
He further mentioned that the concept for this event was developed nearly two months ago to emphasize the increasing significance of gas in India’s clean energy trajectory.
"The primary goal is to underscore that gas will be a very important element—and a vital bridge—in India's transition from fossil to non-fossil fuels," he noted.
"This event seeks to underline the significance of gas as a dependable and crucial aspect of India’s energy future," Priyadarshi concluded.
With the government’s ongoing commitment to cleaner fuels and sustainable development, experts are optimistic that natural gas will play a crucial role in balancing energy demands with environmental accountability.
