Mumbai, Dec 11 (NationPress) Renowned playback singer Udit Narayan shared a gripping tale from the recording of the timeless classic “Bole Chudiyaan” featured in the 2011 hit film “Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham.”
Reflecting on a memorable day during his time on the sets of Indian Idol, Udit recounted how what started as a typical recording session spiraled into a frantic race against time. With a live performance looming and his luggage already checked in at the airport, the pressure escalated.
“I told Jatin ji, let everyone record their parts; I’ll just provide a rough track, as I was feeling the stress. If I miss my flight, it would be a real mess. However, composer Jatin Lalit insisted that we capture the final lines immediately,” Udit explained.
This led to a brief exchange of words before Udit dashed to the airport at the very last moment,” he added.
Just when he believed the chaos was over, the phone rang once more.
“‘You only have a couple of lines left,’ the recording team insisted, calling him back to the studio,” he recalled.
With his bags still on the plane, Udit made a quick return to the studio, recorded the final lines of “Bole Chudiyaan,” and hastily returned to the airport just in the nick of time.
Looking back on the episode, he quoted Vivekananda: “If you want to make history, you must fight alone.”
Udit has lent his voice across multiple languages, including Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Sindhi, Odia, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Malayalam, Assamese, Bagheli, and Maithili.
He has received four National Film Awards, winning the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer three times for his performances in songs like Mitwa from Lagaan, Jaane Kyon Log from Dil Chahta Hai, Chote Chote Sapne Zindagi Khoobsoorat Hai, and Yeh Taara Woh Taara from Swades.
The Government of India recognized his contributions to the arts and culture by awarding him the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
