Mumbai, Dec 16 (NationPress) Actor Vivan Bhathena, who has garnered significant praise for his role in the newly launched film ‘120 Bahadur’, is opening up about a recurring hurdle he faces in the film industry.
In an interview with IANS during the promotional events for ‘120 Bahadur’, he admitted that his appealing looks often cloud the perception of his capabilities as an actor.
He revealed to IANS, “It's an ongoing struggle for me. Just recently, I auditioned for two movies but failed to persuade the director of my acting potential, even though the roles were ideally suited for me. And I see that as a shortcoming on my part. During my time on Rohit Shetty's ‘Sooryavanshi’, the assistants informed me they assumed I was merely a model meant to stand beside Akshay Kumar.”
Vivan emphasized that perceptions tend to reinforce stereotypes, as the industry tends to box artists into roles they are deemed fit for.
He elaborated, “Our industry, with all its pressures and complexities, rarely allows directors the time to recognize or create space for an artist's growth and character development. That’s why I constantly seek to portray various characters. In ‘120 Bahadur’, I embody a Haryanvi Jaat. In ‘Gulabi’, I take on the role of a Rajasthani bandit. I strive to explore diverse roles and appearances to exhibit my skills.”
“In ‘Maria IPS’, which is a biopic of Rakesh Maria, I portray a menacing character. I’m putting in my utmost effort. Sometimes, people don’t even recognize me because of the drastic changes in my looks. Therefore, for me, this has always been a struggle and likely will continue to be, as fate plays its part,” he concluded.
