Key Takeaways
Washington, Feb 19 (NationPress) US President Donald Trump is set to host the first-ever Board of Peace meeting, where participating nations will unveil an impressive investment exceeding $5 billion aimed at the reconstruction of Gaza and associated security initiatives.
The inaugural meeting on Thursday will also see the attendance of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with delegations from more than 40 countries, including India.
President Trump has established the Board of Peace as a pivotal entity to facilitate humanitarian aid, reconstruction efforts, and security protocols in Gaza.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt informed the media that member states “have committed over $5 billion for Gaza’s humanitarian and reconstruction initiatives, alongside pledging thousands of personnel to both the International Stabilisation Force and local law enforcement to uphold security and peace for the people of Gaza.”
Leavitt characterized the financial contribution as “an investment of $5 billion. We are focused on rebuilding Gaza.”
Regarding the management of these funds, Leavitt explained: “Oversight will be handled by the Board of Peace, which the US President chairs. All member nations will have voting rights on funding, complemented by a technical layer under the official Board of Peace that will also participate in decision-making.”
Anticipated speakers at the meeting include President Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his senior advisor Jared Kushner, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and High Representative Nickolay Mladenov.
Senior officials from the administration have disclosed a list of over 40 countries that will take part in the session. Nations contributing representatives include India, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Pakistan.
According to White House spokesperson Anna Kelly, “President Trump is honored to welcome representatives from over 40 nations to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace on Thursday for a significant announcement regarding Board of Peace actions aimed at establishing lasting peace in the Middle East.”
She noted that since the President and his team “concluded the conflict between Israel and Hamas last October, we have sustained the ceasefire, delivered unprecedented humanitarian support, and secured the release of every living and deceased hostage.”
“The Board of Peace will build upon this remarkable achievement and establish itself as the most impactful international entity in history,” she asserted.
In New York, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz stated that the Board of Peace will hold its inaugural meeting in Washington, concentrating on peace and security. He mentioned that the board “will announce tomorrow over $5 billion in commitments for reconstruction.”
Waltz emphasized that “before reconstruction can commence, Hamas must disarm; all military, terror, and offensive infrastructures must be dismantled and not reconstructed, and Gaza must undergo demilitarization and deradicalization.”
At the United Nations, Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo commented, “The Board of Peace meeting tomorrow in Washington, D.C., is a crucial milestone.” She urged for “tangible progress toward stabilization and recovery” and “a credible political route leading to a negotiated two-State solution.”
