UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy Honors Legacy of Former PM Manmohan Singh Following His Passing

London, Dec 28 (NationPress) David Lammy, the UK's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, paid his respects to the late PM Dr Manmohan Singh and underscored Singh's legacy in "laying the foundations for a flourishing India-UK partnership".

"Dr Manmohan Singh's courageous economic reforms revolutionized India's economy. His legacy continues to influence contemporary India, and his vision established the groundwork for today's prosperous UK-India partnership. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of India," Lammy stated on Friday in a post on X.

Tributes have been flowing in from around the globe following the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh.

Dr Singh passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Thursday evening at the age of 92 due to age-related health issues. He experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home and was subsequently rushed to AIIMS Delhi.

Born on September 26, 1932, Dr Manmohan Singh was not only an economist but also served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985.

He held the position of the 13th PM of India from 2004 to 2014.

In addition, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, conveyed profound condolences regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, commending him as a pivotal figure in reinforcing US-India relations.

Blinken praised Dr Singh for his leadership, noting his significant contribution to advancing economic reforms in India and fostering the US-India strategic partnership, particularly highlighting the US-India Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the former PM as an exceptional statesman who made noteworthy contributions to India's economic progress and its global interests.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya remembered the late PM for "his endeavors, which laid the groundwork" for enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel also expressed their condolences regarding the former PM's passing.

Macron stated that India has lost a "great man" and France a "true friend", extending his sympathies to Dr Singh's family and the citizens of India.

In a post on X, Macron remarked, "India has lost a great man, and France a true friend, in the person of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He dedicated his life to his country. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of India."

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of former Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh. Dr Singh was a visionary leader of India. I extend our sincere sympathies and condolences to the government and people of India, as well as to his grieving family members," posted Ramchandra Paudel on X.

The President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, also conveyed his condolences in a post on X, extending sympathies to Singh's family and his many admirers globally.

"On behalf of the people of Sri Lanka and myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Republic of India, Dr Manmohan Singh's family, and his countless admirers worldwide. A visionary leader, Dr Singh's influence transcended national boundaries," Dissanayake wrote.

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed his deep sorrow over Dr Manmohan Singh's passing, referring to him as a "visionary leader". He stated that Nepal will always remember Dr Singh's support for democracy and enduring friendship.

"Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh, former PM of India. A visionary leader, his wisdom, humility, and dedication shaped India and inspired the region. Nepal will forever cherish his support for democracy and lasting friendship," Oli posted on X.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also expressed his condolences regarding the death of former Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Ibrahim described Dr Singh as a valued friend and a towering figure in Indian economic reform, reflecting on Singh's leadership during India's transformative economic phase.

"The weight of grief weighs heavily on me at the news of the passing of my honored and cherished friend: Dr Manmohan Singh. Numerous obituaries, essays, and books will undoubtedly celebrate this remarkable man as the architect of India's economic reforms. As Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh was instrumental in India's rise as one of the world's economic giants," he stated in a post on X.

German Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Philipp Ackermann, expressed his sadness on X, stating: "Saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh. A truly visionary politician, he opened India to the world and shaped the country's future for decades to come. Together with Chancellor Angela Merkel, he elevated the strategic partnership between India and Germany to new heights."
