Bengaluru, Jan 16 (NationPress) A 24-year-old tech professional tragically took her own life in Bengaluru after facing threats from a close relative who insisted he would expose her nude photographs to her family if she did not comply with his demands.
The individual accused, identified as Praveen Singh, has been apprehended.
The victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint with the authorities against Praveen Singh and his spouse Sandhya Singh.
According to police reports citing the complainant, the victim frequently visited Praveen and Sandhya’s home and accompanied them on vacation trips.
On January 12, at 8:40 p.m., the victim’s mother received alarming news that her daughter had suffered burn injuries and was being transported to Victoria Hospital.
Upon arrival, her family found her unconscious in an ambulance, her body covered in burns. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly after by medical personnel.
Initially perplexed about her daughter’s death, the victim’s parents learned from one of her friends on January 13 that Praveen had kept her nude photos and used them to sexually exploit her.
The friend disclosed to the victim’s parents that she resorted to such a drastic action as she could no longer endure the ongoing torment.
During the investigation, police discovered that the victim had set herself on fire at a hotel situated near Kundalahalli Metro Station.
The victim’s parents asserted that their daughter was not frail and ended her life due to the relentless abuse by Praveen.
A case has been filed under Sections 108 and 3 (5) of the BNS Act.
DCP (Whitefield) Shiv Kumar stated, “Within HAL police station limits, a 25-year-old woman has committed suicide by immolating herself. A case has been registered regarding this incident. The woman took her life out of dread after being threatened with having her private videos and photographs revealed to her parents. The victim had known the accused for six years.”
“The accused is a close relative. A room was reserved at the Radha Hotel where he pressured the victim to view the photos and videos. The victim resorted to petrol and set herself ablaze,” he elaborated.
However, reports suggest that the victim was becoming close to another man, which incited Praveen to threaten her with the revelation of her private images to her family.
