Bengaluru, Jan 10 (NationPress) In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction of Somnath Temple located in Gujarat, BJP leaders participated in special prayers at the Kadumalleshwara Temple in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, this past Saturday.

The BJP officials offered prayers to Lord Shiva, chanting the 'Om Namah Shivaya' mantra 11 times during the ceremony.

Among those present were BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, former Deputy Chief Ministers Govind Karjol and C.N. Ashwathnarayan, BJP State General Secretary P. Rajeev, Bengaluru North District Presidents C.K. Ramamurthy and S. Harish, along with Bengaluru Central District President Saptagiri Gowda.

Following the prayers, former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol addressed the media, emphasizing that the Somnath Temple is an age-old shrine established over 1,000 years ago. He remarked that the temple faced destruction during the Mughal invasion and was looted.

Karjol recounted that in 1948, after Jawaharlal Nehru became Prime Minister, the then Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel suggested reconstructing the Somnath Temple, as it represented Hindu identity.

However, Karjol claimed that Nehru opposed this initiative, asserting that there was no necessity to rebuild the temple.

He further mentioned that prominent leaders K.M. Munshi and K.M. Gadgil supported Patel's proposal and advocated strongly for the temple's reconstruction.

Despite this backing, Nehru continued to resist the proposal.

Karjol also noted that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad proposed transferring the temple to the Archaeological Department.

"All leaders unanimously contended that the temple ought to be rebuilt to restore its historical significance. In defiance of Nehru's opposition, the temple was reconstructed in 1951 and dedicated to Hindu worshippers," said Karjol.

Since then, devotees from across the nation have been visiting the temple to offer their prayers.

Karjol remarked that in honor of the Somnath Temple's reconstruction anniversary, not only BJP leaders but Hindus nationwide are engaging in special worship at Shiva temples in their localities.

In his remarks, Vijayendra stated that as part of the 'Somnath Swabhiman Parv', BJP members and patriots across the nation offered special prayers at Shiva temples.
