Kolkata, Jan 30 (NationPress) The West Bengal BJP president and Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar, paid a visit on Thursday to the parents of the RG Kar car victim, promising to address their concerns with the ‘appropriate’ authorities.

Before heading to New Delhi for the upcoming budget session of Parliament, Majumdar met with the victim's parents at their residence.

During this meeting, the parents shared their dissatisfaction with the current investigation conducted by the CBI. They also voiced their opposition to the death penalty for the sole accused in the case, Sanjay Roy.

The parents of the victim reportedly pointed out the observations made by a special court in Kolkata regarding the shortcomings in the CBI's investigation.

Majumdar confirmed to reporters that the parents had highlighted specific points raised by the special court.

Additionally, the victim’s parents expressed concerns regarding one particular investigating officer.

“They have informed me about the situation and I have assured them that I will relay their concerns to the appropriate authorities,” Majumdar stated.

The body of the young woman, a junior doctor, was found in a seminar hall within the R.G. Kar premises on the morning of August 9 last year. Initially, a special investigation team from the Kolkata Police conducted the investigation, resulting in the arrest of Sanjay Roy.

Subsequently, the investigation was transferred to the CBI following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

Earlier this month, the special court in Kolkata sentenced Roy to life imprisonment.

Both the CBI and the West Bengal government have appealed to the Calcutta High Court against the special court’s decision, seeking the death penalty for Roy.

While the hearings have concluded, the court's decision remains pending.
