In a recent post on his X handle, CM Sarma announced, 'In just a short while, I will be dedicating limited OPD services at the Pragjyotishpur Medical College, Birubari; this is Guwahati's 2nd Medical College. Once fully operational, this 14th Medical College in Assam will feature a 505-bed hospital, accommodate 100 MBBS students, and include hostel facilities, among others.'
Previously, the Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP administration is currently developing 23 medical colleges, with work on an additional three expected to commence within a year.
'For a long time, there were only three medical colleges when the Congress was in power. We are now constructing 23 medical colleges throughout the state, and we aim to initiate the construction of three more in the districts of Darang, Hojai, and Hailakandi within the next year,' he stated.
According to CM Sarma, every district contains at least one university, which can be found by traversing the entirety of Assam.
'We have established universities in Hojai, Nagon, Cachar, Bajali, and Lakhimpur - nearly every district in the state has a university under construction or is nearing completion,' he mentioned.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s initiative to construct a bridge across the Brahmaputra in each district.
He remarked, 'Along with universities and medical colleges, we are building bridges over the Brahmaputra River. No one could have anticipated Assam's rapid development. We are on the verge of becoming one of the developed states in the country.'
Additionally, the CM noted that a series of grants and assistance were distributed under various government schemes last December.
Through the microfinance incentive and relief scheme, over 78,000 borrowers benefitted from the state government’s relief package aimed at restoring their creditworthiness and enhancing their financial stability.
