Chennai, Jan 7 (NationPress) Praveen Chakravarty, a senior leader in Congress and the head of the party's Data Analytics Unit, has revealed that he engaged in a meeting with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay. However, he stressed that any decisions regarding political alliances in Tamil Nadu will be determined solely by the Congress high command.

While addressing reporters at the Chennai airport, Chakravarty acknowledged his meeting with Vijay, describing it as a personal interaction and sought to downplay any political speculation that might arise from it.

He emphasized that interacting with individuals from various backgrounds and political spheres is a routine aspect of his public life and should not be interpreted in a sensational or narrow manner.

Chakravarty also pointed out that similar interactions regularly occur in Delhi and beyond, asserting that there is no reason to ascribe undue importance to a single meeting in Tamil Nadu.

In response to the controversy surrounding his comments on Tamil Nadu's financial circumstances, he clarified that he did not intend to compare the state with Uttar Pradesh.

His remarks were based on assessments from the Reserve Bank of India regarding the debt position of Tamil Nadu, supported by existing opinion poll data.

Chakravarty dismissed the notion that his comments were politically motivated or intended to incite controversy.

He further discussed the increasing political visibility of Vijay and the public's reaction to his gatherings and rallies. He observed that attendees were not coming solely to see a film star but were engaging with Vijay in the context of politics. This, he noted, signifies a shift in public perception, indicating that Vijay has become a considerable force in Tamil Nadu politics.

Regarding broader discussions on alliances and power-sharing, Chakravarty stated that aspirations for securing more seats, governance roles, and power-sharing are legitimate political goals.

He characterized these demands as reflective of the concerns of Congress workers who wish for the party to regain its strength after years of decline.

He emphasized that these views were expressed in the interest of the party's future, rather than driven by personal ambitions.

While acknowledging that some legislators may face personal or constituency-related pressures, Chakravarty reaffirmed that Congress remains a democratic organization where members are free to express their demands.

Nonetheless, he highlighted that the ultimate decision regarding alliances, including possible collaborations with emerging political entities, will rest exclusively with the party leadership.
